School’s out and fun family time is in!
Getting the whole family involved in fun projects at home is a great way to bond and draw out everyone’s creativity. Here are some ideas for DIY made possible with materials you could pick up at your local HomeCo. centre:
- A mirror is a great addition to the household but why not get everyone involved in creating their own mirrors for the bedroom or even the living room? Purchase multi sized mirrors and acrylic paint to add on splashes of colours with your own designs because it would not only enhance your home decor but adds a personalised touch for every space at home.
- Twig bowls are rustic and timeless for indoor and out decorations and so easy to make with the family! All you need to get are plastic bowls of various sizes as moulds and glue guns. Get the kids to collect twigs in the garden and around the neighbourhood. Make sure they are multiple sizes and get creative with weaving the twigs together to create your own special bowl for home decor.
- Jar lanterns are a charming addition to your home - simple, easy, can be used all year round and no better way to get the family involved to bring light into your home. Grab multiple mason jars, strings, paint and tealight candles to get creative with the decoration! Tie strings around the jars, paint them and allow time to dry before removing the strings to see what you’ve created. Light up tealight candles and put them in the jars. Voila, you’ve made your very own lanterns!
- Turn those boring terracotta and plastic flowerpots into a garden art decor corner. All you need are terracotta and plastic pots of various sizes and shapes, black or white paint to provide a plain base, coloured paint, brushes, and let your kids’ imagination run wild. To make things more fun and sustainable, have the kids stencil multiple shapes with leaves, or cut out shapes from cardboard. That is a lasting memory they will forever cherish with you.
